01 SZ 2008 16/07. – 30/07.08 STARA ZAGORA, SOUTHERN BG ARCH/MANU 16+ 16 VOLS
  • Stara Zagora (SZ) is a mid-size Bulgarian town (170 000 inhabitants) with an ancient history and heritage (older than 8000 years). In relation with the fast emerging town center and related construction projects SZ Historic Museum implements an intensive program of rescue excavations discovering Roman, Late Antique and Medieval pages of town history. Opening a call for 16 vols BYC is supporting following activities of the Museum: rescue excavations and archaeological sites’ maintenance. All vols interested in Archaeology and Cultural heritage preservation are welcome. No previous experience required. Excursions and workshops in the area of Archaeology provided. Opportunities for sport and entertainment in Stara Zagora are a lot.
  • WORK: app. 5-6 hours per day but Sundays. Manual work during rescue excavations - digging, brushing, measuring, washing and cataloging artifacts etc., during maintaining archaeological sites’ areas - painting, removing grass etc.

HR-VCZ 6.1 WHAT SEA BRINGS TO US (Tkon, Island of Pasman) 14/5-28/5 8 vols ENVI
  • L: The Island of Pasman belongs to Zadar archipelagos. The island's well-preserved landscape features many species of medicinal and aromatic herbs, vineyards, fields and olive groves. The camp has been organized for the third time in cooperation with TRS Association which aims at improving the quality of life on the island.
  • W: Volunteers will work on cleaning garbage off the beach and also run on beatification projects on the island, such as wall paintings, planting, decorating etc. Free time: excursion to Zadar, visits to monasteries, trekking around the island, swimming in the see :)

HR-VCZ 6.8 TRPANJ (Pelješac Peninsula) 26/5-8/6 10 vols ENVI
  • L: Trpanj is one of the oldest settlements on the Pelješac Peninsula, an oasis of crystalline sea and untouched nature. Trpanj and surroundings are environmentally pure areas, with little stony and sand beaches, beautiful crystal clear sea. The camp has been organized for the third time in cooperation with local Tourist Board and Municipality.
  • W: Work part will involve tree planting, maintaining walking and mountain trails, as well as setting up signs around cultural objects. Also, volunteers will clean up garbage off the beach, which will be used for recycleArt workshops with children from local school. Free time: local history and cultural heritage, excursion to Dubrovnik.

HR-VCZ 6.2 KUKLJCA (Island of Ugljan) 20/6-3/7 8 vols ENVI/ART
  • L: Kukljica is a small village situated on the Island of Ugljan which lies just few nautical off-shore from Zadar.
  • W: Volunteers will work on clening beaches and maintaining paths that lead to the beach. The garbage recollected will be used by volunteers for SMECART (garbage art), an exihibition that volunteers and some local artists will organize at the end of the workcamp. They will also actively partecipate in the organization of a poetry event. Free time: excursion to National park Kornati, monasteries etc. Extra (funny) activities, organized by local community, are foreseen.

HR-VCZ 9.1 DALMATIA WORLD MUSIC (Kastel Kambelovac) 30/6-15/7 10 vols FEST
  • L: Located only 15km from Split on the beautiful Adriatic coast, Kastel Kambelovac is one of the 7 towns of the Kastela Bay characterized by medieval castles. The work camp has been organized for the past four years.
  • W: Volunteers will help in organizing the 10th annual Dalmatia World Music Festival, one of the biggest in the region. The main tasks include preparation of traditional local food, journalist assignments, building stages for concerts, buying groceries, etc.
  • A: Tourist camp in Kastel Kambelovac, in tents. Sleeping bags are necessary. Volunteers will cook for themselves.

HR-VCZ 5.1 SUPETAR (Island of Brac) Dates to be confirmed 8 vols KIDS
  • W: The camp has been organized for the forth time in cooperation with St. Anna Home for Children without Parental Care from Vinkovci. Volunteers will organize workshops for children from the Home on the following topics: dancing, acting, drawing, jewellery-making, juggling, sports. Volunteers will also help in preparing daily meals and occasionally spend time with children on the beach.

HR-VCZ 6.3 SOLTA SOLAR ACADEMY (Island of Solta) 06/07-19/07 20 vols ENVI/ECO
  • W: The Island of Solta is one-hour boat ride off Split. The camp is organized in cooperation with Zelena akcija (Green Action). Volunteers will renovate abandoned military barracks which will serve in future as an educational centre in the field of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and general environmental activism. The camp site is 50 min from the sea side by foot.

HR-VCZ 6.4 UNAVANTURA (Srb) 15/7-30/7 15 Vols ENVI/RENO
  • L: Srb is a small town located in the south-eastern part of Lika, in the beautiful Una River valley. Workcamp will be organized with local NGO UNA as part of a cross border project UnAvanTurizam.
  • W: The main goal is to rise up environmental awareness of local people and networking, through promotion of sustainable development and environmental protection. Volunteers will repair and build up tourist paths. Also, some signalization will be set up as well as wooden benches and tables. Free time: excursions to Zadar, Cerovac caves, Una regatta and visits to preserved nature areas.

HR-VCZ 6.5 (PVP) LOVINAC 2008 (Lovinac)25/7-8/8 12 vols ENVI/EDU
  • L: Sveti Rok, Lovinac Municipality, in region of Lika - Senj County, half way between Zagreb and Split. This camp is the result of a long and successful cooperation between VCZ and the Municipality in Lovinac.
  • W: Volunteers’ work will include daily activities such as cleaning and marking of walking and bike paths, cleaning the lake and the beach, repainting different facilities, organization of small local events… This camp will also have education part on peace topic. Excursions to one of National Parks in the region and Adriatic Coast will be organized. A: Centre for day care and domestic help for senior citizens.

HR-VCZ 5.2 (PVP) SUNCOKRET (Gvozd) 20/7-2/8 7 vols KIDS/ENVI
  • L: Gvozd is a very small town in a post war area. It is situated about one hour and half from Zagreb.
  • W: Volunteers will primarily organize and run workshops and different activities (accordingly with their own skills) with children and youth from the local community, they will as well work on beautification projects such as mosaics and wall paintings and environmental cleanup. During the camp will be organized activities and short term project on peace education and multi/intercultural issues to promote tolerance and solidarity as a way of living and thinking.

HR-VCZ 6.6 HOW TO SHOVEL AROUND A GLOBAL VILLAGE 2008 (Petlovac) 26/7-9/8 15 vols RENO/ENVI
  • L: Municipality of Petlovac is situated in the western part of Croatia, between Park of Nature “Kopacki rit“ in Croatia and National Park „Dunav-Drava“ in Hungary. This multinational area is isolated from main cultural and tourist happenings and therefore this workcamp will animate and involve local people in active participation.
  • W: Volunteers will work on renovation of a former military building to create an enviromental/culture centre that aims to organize activities and projects for the local community. Local community will help volunteers and will cooperate with them. LA: English

HR-VCZ 6.7 REFUGIUM URSORUM (Kuterevo) 11/8-23/8 18+ 12 vols ENVI
  • L: Kuterevo is small village near Mount Velebit. The camp is organized in cooperation with Kuterevo Association which promotes ecology, sustainable development and eco-tourism. The camp will take place in Brown Bear Refuge Centre.
  • W: Volunteers will work on maintenance of natural pools that keep rainwater for bears and other animals. Paths for bear sanctuary will be made up and fruits and herbs for beers will be collected. Also, volunteers will participate in eco-ethno festival. Free time: excursions to Adriatic Coast, Velebit Nature Park and Velebit caves.

  • L: Slatina is a small nice town with 10 000 inhabitants, situated in Virovitica-podravina country, between river Drava and mountain Papuk, and it's surrounded by beautiful landscapes.
  • W: This camp is going in cooperation with Association of people with disabilities. The main goal of this project is move this people from their houses and institutions and show them some other aspects of life. In the project people with disabilities and their families will participate. Local and international volunteers will work and spend days with members of Association of disabled people in different art workshops or in nature. Free time: walking in vineyards, horseback-riding, games, excursion in Nature Park Papuk.

HR-VCZ 9.2 MNOGO U MALOM '08 (Jagnjedovec) 16/8-4/9 18+ 10 vols FEST/HERI
  • L: Jagnjedovec, 7km from Koprivnica, North Croatia, from more info please visit www.sunny-village.com. “Mnogo u malom” is a festival of (multi)culture which purpose is to broaden the multicultural experience through an exchange of knowledge and skills in an eco-ethno environment.
  • W: Volunteers will help to create and prepare the program of the festival. Each volunteer will be required to prepare her/his own workshop in advance and give it during the festival. It should be a practical presentation of any knowledge or skill which the volunteer wants to share with the guests of the festival. One of the festival days will be dedicated to volunteers' countries (cultures) during which they should present their country (culture) in any way they want. During with the festival, volunteers will participate in a 5 day bike expedition along the river Drava and surrounding hills. (not too demanding).

MKYCCBT 01 “SLEPCE 2008” 21/07/08 - 31/07/08; 10 VOLS; age 18-35 CONS/RENO
  • W: Volunteers will work on renovation and reconstruction of the monastery complex and its surroundings. Daily work will be up to 6 hours per day. It will include physical work on reconstruction of monastery premises, as well as clean up actions and horticultural arranging of the monastery yard. Volunteers will enjoy natural beauty of Slepce and near by villages and learn about local customs and socialize with local people. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about monastery tourism in Demir Hisar municipality. No special skills required but interest in rural and monastery tourism appreciated

MKYCCBT 02 “OHRID SUMMER FESTIVAL 2008” 01/08/08 - 09/08/08; 7 VOLS; age 18- 35 FEST
  • Ohrid is a city on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid in R Macedonian. It has about 55,700 inhabitants. The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. It is located east of Elbasan and Tirana in Albania, southwest of Skopje, and west-northwest of Resen and Bitola. Indeed the town of Ohrid is built on a hill. In 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
  • W: Volunteers will work on festival like staff. They will be in charge for logistics preparation and realization of the festival. Daily work depends of the day but it won’t be longer then 3- 4 hours. Also, volunteers will have creative workshops organized by the festival and they will be part of the festival’s program, press conferences, cocktails, official dinner. A chance for sightseeing in one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in the Balkans!. Visit to historical and archaeological sites in Ohrid included. Participants with previous experiences in organizing festivals are more than welcomed.

MKYCCBT 03 “PARKOVI 2008” 03/08/08– 12/08/08 ; 10 VOLS age 18- 35 ENVI
  • Bitola, town of consuls, is the second largest city in Republic of Macedonia. It's located at an altitude of 600m, at the foot of the Pelister Mountains with over 80,000 inhabitants, while the entire Bitola municipality numbers over 106,000. The city is 15km from Greek border in Southwest of Macedonia and 70 km from Ohrid.
  • W: “Parkovi” is project implemented by Bitola municipality and the coalition of several NGOs from Bitola. Foreign volunteers will work all together with local ones on a forestation and animation the content of one of the several parks in Bitola. Workshops on intercultural learning and communication included. No special skills required but be ready for physical work. Excursion to Pelister mountain, barbecue, local archaeological sites for all volunteers.

MKYCCBT 04 “BITOLA OPEN CITY- ART FESTIVAL 2008”

  • Bitola, town of consuls, is the second largest city in Republic of Macedonia. It's located at an altitude of 600m, at the foot of the Pelister Mountains with over 80,000 inhabitants, while the entire Bitola municipality numbers over 106,000. The city is 15km from Greek border in Southwest of Macedonia and 70 km from Ohrid. This year is the seventh edition of the festival and will be full of happenings like rock concert as the highlight of the gathering, graffiti gallery, rollerblading competition, street theatre, workshops, street music, video art, jam sessions evenings…
  • W: Volunteers will work on festival like staff. They will be in charge for logistics preparation and realization of the festival. Daily work depends on the day but it won’t be longer than 4-5 hours. Late working
  • hours are included, because most events are in the evenings. Also, volunteers in mornings will have creative workshops (last year it was newspaper theatre) and will prepare short artistic performance which will be part of the festival’s program. VOC 01 “Kolasin 2008” Kolasin 01.07–15.07.2008 ENVI/RENO 18+ 15vols

  • The work camp will be organised in cooperation with Kolasin municipality
  • WORK: Renovation work and ecological action in order to provide help to local community. Workshops about voluntarism and activism for participants of the camp will be organized in order to give the space to people involved in the activity to discus topics of active participation and voluntarism and compare situation in Montenegro and other countries.

VOC 02 “Crossing the borders” Savnik; 15.07- 22.07. 2008 EDU 18+ 15 vols

  • WORK: Volunteers who will be coming are disadvantaged young people who had never been traveling abroad before because of the many socio economical reasons. They will be gathered together in one place, working and living with peoples from differnet backgrounds and cultures, and developing common sence of european citizenship, learning abouth other cultures and languages and customs and working together a community usefull work. Workshops will be organised on intercultural learning, active participation, voluntarism, etc.

VOC 03 “Art colony Bjelasica 2008” Bijelo Polje 21.07-02.08. 2008 ART 18+ 15 vols

· The work camp will be organized in cooperation with ecological NGO "Bjelasica" from Bijelo Polje.

· WORK: Vols will paint the most remarkable landscapes surrounding Bjelasica Mountain, by their personal style and choosing which art motives to reproduce. The Bjelasica Mountain with its unique landscape will offer excelent motivation for the paintin of its astonishing nature.

  • LOCATION: Art colony will be situated on Bjelasica Mountain, 1,900 meters above the sea level and 26 km far from Bijelo Polje down town. Bijelo Polje is the maint town of that municipality and one of the biggest towns in northeren Montenegro. www.visit-montenegro.com

· MEETING POINT: Meeting point will be in village Ravna Rijeka, just few kilometers out of town of Bijelo Polje, in the direction of the mountain of Bjelasica and campsite. There are regular daily busses and mini vans that go to Ravna Rijeka.

· ACOMODATION: Volunteers will be accommodated in the mountaineers' house, called “Eco catun”situated on the Bjelasica Mountain. Volunteers have to take sleeping bag, bathing suit and warm clothes (mountains nights could be cold).

· FOOD: Volunteers will prepare food by themselves.

· LANGUAGE: English.

· NOTES: Only vols with artistic tendencies, students of art schools and artists. Vols have to take professional material that they are habituated to use for their artistic work (brush, colours and other material for painting), warm clothes (mountains nights could be cold).

  • The workcamp will be organised in cooperation with the Institute for teaching and professional rehabilitation of children with disabilities.
  • WORK: Volunteers will be working renovation and repair jobs within the institute; they will be painting the fence between buildings and scrub down the old one, as well as some small repair jobs inside of buildings.
  • LOCATION: Institute for Teaching and Professional Rehabilitation of Children with Disabilities is located on the outskirts of the Podgorica, Capitol of Montenegro. The place itself is easily reachable by bus from any bus stop vithin the town area. Podgorica, capitol, is the biggest city in Montenegro and it is wery well connected with any other destination in Montenegro, very near to the skadar lake, biggest in the balkans and a national park, 75 kilometers from the beautifull coast of Montenegro and many other natural beauties and historical heritage sites are in close vicinity of Podgorica.. www.visit-montenegro.com

  • LOCATION: Cetinje and surrounding, southern Montenegro. Cetinje is an old royal capital and a place of numerous historical monuments, museums and cultural sites.
