CHANTIERS SOCIAUX MAROCAINS SUMMER PROGRAM 2008

Work : An Arabic language session is a special activity that CSM organize every year. Some 80 people coming from different countries participate in them. The objectives of this activity are:
- Giving to people the opportunity to get basic knowledge about Arabic language. That knowledge could be useful for him in their studies or in their daily life or in their travels in countries speaking this language.
- Giving the opportunity to people to get in touch with the Moroccan culture and its way of life, and in consequences achieve a fruitful cultural exchange.
- Giving the opportunity to people has some basic knowledge about this language to brush up it and be adapted to different ways to use it.

Food and Accommodation: The participants lodge and eat in hosts families .
Location: Rabat is the capital of Morocco it's situated on the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh nights.
Terminal: Casablanca airport and / or Rabat airport.

Type: Training Camps/CULT	Lodging : In families	Participants: 10

Work : The participants will learn and work deeply the Moroccan artisan techniques to work pottery. They will get knowledge about how to do pottery articles from working and preparing the earth to decorating the articles. This activity doesn't require individual skills but it demands your motivation to overcome all difficulties. CSM will provide you all the materials needed in this activity. One of the aims of those camps is to discover the Moroccan culture and history and compare this to yours.
Food and Accommodation: The participants lodge and eat in hosts families .
Location: Salé is a beautiful town situated on the Atlantic Ocean, it’s the nearest town to Rabat, they are separated by a river .This town is well known by its pottery and, monuments and nice beaches. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh nights.

Work : The Workshops of Drama and Animation is a special activity that CSM organize for the third year. Some 20 people coming from different countries participate in them last year. The objectives of this activity are:
To Know , To make : To communicate clearly, to order its ideas, to argue, memorize, and analyze a text or a character,
To know, To be : To trust each other; overcome its blockings and its timidity. To open on the world, to be with the listening of the others,
To know, to develop: To know how to promote its capacity of creation and a spirit of initiative.

Work : Contents of the trekking - intercultural exchange programme
The program includes 2 weeks of different activities:
The first week we will organise arabic langauge courses, visits of Rabat and salé and others historical sites in the region. in this week the participants lodge and eat in hosts families .
The second week will be reserved for visiting Marrakech and trekking in the high Atlas.

Work : The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a school, and it consists at painting and cleaning the classrooms and the surrounded area of the school. This work will be also achieved by the association of student which will contribute actively with the volunteers during their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in all the camp’ by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Food and Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the local youth house. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day). More information about the camp place will be given later.
Location: Zagora is a beautiful town in the south of Morocco, near the Algerian borders . It is well known by its large desert. The climate is very hot, in summer it can reach around 40°. Zagora is about 750 km from Rabat and about 250 Km in the south of Ouarzazate.

Work : The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a center for orphan children, and it consists on painting and cleaning the Classrooms and the surrounded area of the school and the orphanage. During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Food and Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the local youth house. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).
Location: Marrakech is a very beautiful town situated in the south region of Morocco, it is well known b its nice and animated place Jamaa Elfna , its traditional markets and historical patrimony . The climate in Marrakech is usually hot in summer; however, it could change from time to time.

Work: The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a center for poor and orphans children, and it consists on painting and cleaning the Classrooms and the surrounded area of the Center. During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Food and Accommodation: The volunteers will be lodged in a center for children resident. It's the same for the food which will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).
Location: Sidi Ifni is a very beautiful small town situated in the south region of Morocco, Its far from Agadir by 120km, it is well known by its nice and animated beach, its traditional markets and historical patrimony. The climate in Sidi Ifni is usually hot in summer; however, it could change from time to time.

Work : The project will be organized in collaboration with the local delegation of education, it will take place in a school, and it consists at painting and cleaning the classrooms and the surrounded area of the school. Work : The project which will be organized in collaboration with the municipality of Kenitra consists at creating a public garden in a popular area, The volunteers will also organize campaigns of environmental sensibilisation with the local youth organisations according to a daily programme prepared in collaboration with them and with all the participants . During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in all the camp’ by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Food and Accommodation: The volunteers will be lodged in the Center itself. It's the same for the food which will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day)
Location: Kenitra is a town situated on the north of Rabat on the Atlantic Ocean in a large agricultural region. Some nice beaches are situated between the city and Rabat. In summer, the climate is normally hot. Kenitra is far from Rabat by 40 km.

Work : This camp will be organised in collaboration with the local municipality, it consists on contributing to the local campaign of cleaning and protecting the Salé / Bouknadel beach environment. The volunteers will work with other young and some local associations on this issue and also to the mobilization the local population so to contribute to the environnement protection in general . During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organization by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Food and Accommodation: The volunteers will be lodged in a school resident. It's the same for the food which will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).

Work : This camp will be organised in collaboration with the local delegation of social work, it consists at contributing to the campaigns of cleaning a center of poor children. The volunteers will work with other young people and some local associations to give a new look to this educative establishment. During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organization of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organization by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.

Location: Asilah is a city situated on the northwest tip of Morocco with a history back to 1500 B.C. The Phoenicians used the city as a trading site. The Portuguese conquered the city during the 15th century, but John III later decided to abandon it because of an economic crisis in 1549. In 1692, the town was take by the Moroccans under the leadership of Moulay Ismail. 1912-1956 was part of Spanish Morocco. Asilah served as a base for pirates in the 19th and 20th centuries. A major plan to restore the city was undertaken in 1978. It is now a popular seaside resort and an art city.

Location: While Sefrou is just a small city, it is clearly among the best destinations for 20 kms from Fez. It lies more than 900 metres above sea level, and every spring the rivers become so fierce that buildings and agriculture is threatened.
Sefrou's history is dominated by religion. It was a Jewish town before Islam was introduced in the 8th century. There are many festivals in town, celebrating the cherry harvest, the prophet Daniel, the 17th century saint Sidi Lahcen Ben Ahmed or Lalla Rekia and her miraculous spring that cures madness.

Location: El Jadida is a port city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, in the province of El Jadida. It has a population of 144,440 and is the port for Marrakech, 110 miles to the south. From the sea, El Jadida has a very un-Moorish appearance; it has massive Portuguese walls of hewn stone. El Jadida, previously known as Mazagan , was seized in 1502 by the Portuguese. From 1580 to 1640, Portugal was under Spanish dynastic rule. Portuguese abandoned Mazagão in 1769 and it's inhabitants were totally evacuated to Brazil, where they founded new settlement Nova Mazagão, now in Amapá. The name is also connected with Mazagaon, one of Bombay's oldest neighbourhoods, also having Portuguese origins. The Portuguese Fortified City of Mazagan was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Location: Essaouira is a very beautiful town situated on the Atlantic Ocean between Safi and Agadir in the south of Morocco, it’s situated on a very nice and large beach of the Ocean, many people come to spend their holidays in this area .During summer several cultural, sportive and artistic activities are organized. The climate is normally hot in summer; however warm closes are advised to be used in some fresh and windy nights.
Food and Accommodation: The full accommodation will be in the local youth house. The food will be prepared by the volunteers’ themselves (2v or 3v per day).

During their work the volunteers will be leaded by a technician who will also organize the work programme. The general organizations of the workcamp will be the responsibility of another animator; the volunteers are invited to contribute in the general organizations by sharing the responsibility of the workcamp every day with this general animator.
Location: Meknès is one of the Moroccan most cultural and well known town. It's known by its monuments and old medina which encloses several artisan articles shops. In summer the climate is very hot, you can go to swimming pool or mineral sources not far from the town .You can also spend nice weekend in Fés the nearest town to it (60 km), Meknès is far from Rabat by 120 km .

Location: Casablanca is the economic capital of Morocco, due to its large economical activities. It's also the town which enclose the biggest number of population (more than 2 Millions). In spite of this, Casablanca has also its monuments, cultural and artistic activities. Casablanca is about 100 km from Rabat and 30 km from its airport.

GENERAL INFORMATIONS
1- CSM what is it ?
CSM, Chantiers Sociaux Marocains, is a non profit NGO, founded in 1963. CSM is a national association, with several sections all around Morocco and a large international relation of cooperation. CSM is the Moroccan national committee of ICYE International Cultural Youth Exchange; it’s a member of several national, regional and international plat forms.
CSM aims to:
- To promote volunteer activities for young people in their spare time and holidays;
- To promote community development and encourage participation of community members in activities for their own benefit;
- To create opportunities to exchange experiences between youth from different parts of the country and the rest of the world;
- To promote international understanding through voluntary services;
- To enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures;
- To encourage the concept of voluntary services as a force in search for peace equality, democracy and international understanding;

2- What is CSM workcamp conception?
A workcamp is a sort of voluntary service. The participants in this activity try to work together for a common aim. This means that all the participants must be actively involved in this service and be well motivated to do it.
A workcamp is also an opportunity for young people to exchange experiences and to achieve an intercultural learning process so as to build a word of peace and mutual understanding.
The work greatly varies from one project to the other. It normally involves Construction work in remote educative, social and cultural establishments, nature conservation work, and restoration of historical monuments, bricks molding, health and Aids awareness campaigns, sanitation projects such as digging water wells and erecting Blair toilets. The communities may ask us to perform other specific tasks outside the scope of our agreement. This is seen as a way of promoting intercultural understanding.

3- Who can participate?
All the people between 18 and 40 years old can participate; some exception could be done for older motivated people.

4- Insurance
CSM provides all the participants with an insurance which covers only the work accidents. For other illness, the participants should have their own insurance.
